It has been a very busy couple of months for the Network, this Newsletter provides a brief update about the Network activities

Chief Psychiatrist’s Inpatient Leave of Absence Guideline

  • Kylie Boucher and Jo Stubbs ran a workshop at the Austin to begin the re-write of the OCP Treatment Plan Guideline
  • 9 senior staff attended and had input into the guideline
  • Henrique Van-Dunem and Jo Stubbs will travel to Shepparton on the 11th December to run the same workshop at a rural service

Cross Sector Project

  • After a meeting with the Governance Committee a decision has been made about which sectors will be incorporated in this program of work
  • Mental Health Services and the AOD sector will be the main focus for this program
  • There will be opportunities for other sectors to be included depending on the projects selected
  • The literature review to help guide this work is almost complete
  • Establishment of a Cross Sector Reference Group has begun
  • A draft framework will be ready in time for the SC planning day in February

Project Management Workshop

  • Christina Katopis from Learn4Results will deliver a one day workshop on Project Management to Network members on the 27th March 2018
  • Training will be held at the HEC building, Poplar Rd, Royal Park Campus, Parkville
  • There will be a maximum of 25 places
  • Further information to follow

Steering Committee update

  • We welcome Rika Delaney as the new VMHILN Coordinator
  • Paola Cheng has resigned from Eastern Health and has stepped down as the VMHILN Deputy Coordinator
  • Dr Michael Gardner will be stepping down from his role as Communications Officer
  • The positions of Communications Officer, Deputy Communication Officer & Deputy Coordinator are all open.
  • Nominations close Wednesday 20th December.

VMIAC and MH Nurses Conference

  • Rika Delaney and Henrique Van-Dunem presented about the Network at the VMIAC conference in November
  • Jo Stubbs & Rosemary Charleston presented at the Mental Health Nurses Conference in Hobart in October
  • Both conferences raised a lot of interest about the Network and a common question has been, How do I join? People who work in area mental health services have been encouraged to talk to their service and find out who their team is and to make inquires

October Meeting

  • We had good attendance at our October meeting
  • The Mental Health Complaints Commissioner, Lynne Coulson Barr and two other members from her office, Keir Saltmarsh and Kirsty Irving attended for an interactive workshop about complaints in services

Next Meeting

  • Our next meeting will be held on the 19th December at the Royal College of Surgeons.
  • Formal welcome to Cohort 4
  • Christmas celebration from 12:30 – 1pm
